I picked up a new CD this weekend.

I wasn't out shopping for CDs and was unaware that this particular CD even existed before I saw it on the shelf.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Flight of the Conchords, they're a couple of goofball comic-musicians from New Zealand who have a show on HBO about...a couple of musicians from New Zealand trying to find success in the music industry in New York. The show's awesome (I picked up the season one DVDs a few weeks ago, but haven't even opened the shrinkwrap yet - my DVR is always full and putting a DVD in the player just seems like such a hassle).

(this isn't from the HBO series)

The CD has 15 songs that anyone familiar with the HBO series will recognize:
Foux du Fafa
Inner City Pressure
Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros
Think About It
Ladies of the World
Mutha'uckas
The Prince of Parties
Leggy Blonde
Robots
Boom
A Kiss Is Not a Contract
The Most Beautiful Girl (In the Room)
Business Time
Bowie
Au Revoir

And there was an unexpected and added bonus: the CD came in a Conchords pop-up cardboard case with a (no environmentally-unfriendly jewel case here!) with a two-sided Flight of the Conchords poster (which is now hanging in my cubicle at work).

Good stuff.

(also not from the HBO series)

This just keeps getting better and better...

Flight Of The Conchords' new album debuted at Number Three on the US Billboard chart this week, beating out pop star Ashlee Simpson who came in at Number Four.

I'll bet they outsold every American Idol winner, too.

That isn't really saying a lot since most of them have been sucking lately. If you like these guys, you might like Pinkard and Bowden.

The closest comparison to Flight of the Conchords I can think of is The Smothers Brothers. Their act was a little more folky, but they're also skilled musicians and talented singers doing...schtick.

Simpler times.

Don't forget: Tommy Smothers is also a yo-yo expert.

I loved watching them as a kid.

Dude, I love Flight of the Conchords. That's some pretty funny stuff and I would love to see them live. The tv show was 'ok', but their music is intelligent and catchy, providing some pretty good parodies of contemporary trends and topics.

I give it four Puzzle Pieces out of five.

Yeah, that last part sounded really dumb and made very little sense.

I thought it was kind of cute!
