I'm on a mailing list for a local radio station (102.1, KPRi) and often get offers of free-members only performances by performers I've never really heard of.

Admission is by invitation only. As a KPRi FREEQ, you can get two free tickets (You must be 21 or older with a valid ID to attend this event.

The latest (today's) tickets are for a British chick, Adele. I've never heard of her and she's definitely no Mandy Moore (she's kind of thick), but if I was a single guy, I'd be all over these tickets.

Unfortunately, the little woman doesn't want to go and even if she did, we'd have to find babysitters...so no joy.

Then go with one of the guys from work or some other place.

I would, but...I get enough grief at home without opening up that can of worms*.

* where did the expression "open up a can of worms" originate? Where exactly does one find a "can" of worms? Is that a specialty grocery item in third world countries like Australia?

I don't understand the concept of "if I was a single guy, I'd be all over these tickets." Ummm, why? Are you saying that as a single guy you would attend her concert in the hopes she would see you in the audience and invite you back to her dressing room? Or something else?

If I were a single guy I could think of better (and easier) ways to pick up women.

Turn them upside down and carry them like a bowling ball?

No...

The "single guy" aspect is related to having the freedom to go wherever the hell I wanted whenever I wanted. It's not so much this chick's performance that I'd be "all over," it's any free live performance. Live music is pretty much teh awesome.

I just got another email about a free concert for these guys:

But I think they consider themselves a "Christian Rock" band...so I may not be quite as enthusiastic about their tickets.

Ah. Fair enough. I appreciate the hell out of that sentiment. good.gif

Worms used to be sold in cans. Fishermen noticed that if they opened up the can of worms then tried to put the worms back in the can, the worms wouldn't fit. The fishermen always needed a bigger can.

Just like men, always wanting bigger and bigger cans.

You're just making that up, aren't you? Worms in cans? Whoever heard of such a thing.

Anyway...

I got another email for a free performance that I'd really, really like to go see: Aimee Mann (former lead hottie of 'Til Tuesday).

She's a little older (but still very attactive) and her music is "folkier" sounding than 'Til Tuesday's synthesizer-heavy stuff of the 80s, but I'm sure it will be an enjoyable show.

The latest free performance:
Newton Faulkner

He's like a cross between Flight of the Conchords and Rob Zombie (his appearance, not his singing).

I suspect this would also be a fun night out...

The latest free concert opportunity to be missed:

No More Kings

I'd never heard of these guys before, but how can you not like a band that writes songs paying homage to The Karate Kid, undoubtedly on of the greatest films of all time!!

The video for their Sweep the Leg is hilarious.

And if you're going to do a site in macromedia Flash, this is the way to do it. I loathe most Flash sites because they're just annoying version of what could have easily been done in HTML, but this one is clever and actually interesting.

Of all the free gigs so far, this is probably the one that would be the most fun to see live.
