Canada is way worse.

OTTAWA (AFP) - A Canadian court has lifted a 12-year-old girl's grounding, overturning her father's punishment for disobeying his orders to stay off the Internet, his lawyer said Wednesday.
The girl had taken her father to Quebec Superior Court after he refused to allow her to go on a school trip for chatting on websites he tried to block, and then posting "inappropriate" pictures of herself online using a friend's computer.
The father's lawyer Kim Beaudoin said the disciplinary measures were for the girl's "own protection" and is appealing the ruling.

I can't even imagine this being a real event. How in the hell does a child take their father to court to dispute disciplinary actions? What kind of bullshit is that?
But, as always, there's more to the story.
QUOTE
The dispute began in May when the girl had a disagreement with her stepmother. That prompted the father to forbid the girl to go on a three-day outing with her classmates to celebrate their last year in elementary school. The girl then moved to her mother's house.
The parents, who live in the Gatineau region of Quebec, are divorced and the father has legal custody.

So...the father has legal custody and has remarried. The daughter and the stepmother don't get along (big surprise). And now the daughter is living with her mother.
Does anyone else smell interference from the girl's mother here? For a father to get custody of a child is usually pretty indicative that the mother is not exactly a mother of the year candidate (the good kind, that is). So when she saw a way to weasel her way back into her daughter's life and undermine his authority, I'll bet she was all over it.

While the girl's father has full legal custody, pending a further court decision, the girl has been living with her mother, Ms. Fortin said. But while Ms. Beaudoin says the girl went to live with her mother when her father forbade her from going on the trip, Ms. Fortin contends that she was "kicked out" of her father's house over family tensions.
"In a situation like this where you're in contested custody proceedings, there's often a high level of conflict," Ms. Grassby said. "And one of the reasons that in Quebec children have lawyers named for them is because the parents and the court recognize that in high-conflict situations it gives the child a safe place to first give their opinion, and get advice."

I doubt she was actually "kicked out" by her father. It probably went down more like this: "Sure, you can come live with me, sweetie. Of course I'll let you go on the trip and chat with your friends and post whatever you want on myspace."
QUOTE
The father, who is appealing the decision, was "devastated" by the ruling, and is refusing to take his daughter back "because he has no authority over her."
Who can blame him?
Goddamn liberals are undermining the future with this shit.
