You've probably already heard about the twenty year-old Russian model, Ruslana Korshunova, who died in the US last weekend in an apparent suicide. I'd never heard her name before this week, but there are so many nameless pretty faces out there strutting up and down the world's catwalks and posing for every imaginable makeup and clothing line that this is hardly surprising. When the news of her death got out, I dug around a little to see who she was.

(these are all pretty low-res images, but that's all I've been able to find with the limited searching I've done)
As with many models, she was discovered while still quite young.

Her photograph, which was featured in the article, caught the attention of Debbie Jones of Models 1, who tracked down and signed up the then 15-year-old Korshunova. Nicknamed the Russian Rapunzel she was known for her long knee length chestnut hair in her early work.

Being thrust into the spotlight at such a young age probably didn't help much with her mental stability.
QUOTE
Ruslana Korshunova, a 20-year-old native of Kazakhstan, had lost a lot of weight in the last month and had trouble balancing her personal life and her demanding work schedule, her ex-boyfriend told the paper.

The signs were reported to have been there for anyone close to her to see.
QUOTE
In one message three months ago she wrote: "I'm so lost. Will I ever find myself?"
An earlier posting, quoted by the New York Daily News, she wrote: "It hurts, as if someone took a part of me, tore it out, mercilessly stomped all over and threw it out." One cryptic entry in March reads: "My dream is to fly. Oh, my rainbow it is too high."
Other postings revealed anger.
In March she wrote: "I'm a bitch. I'm a witch. I don't care what you say ... I know why my other relationships didn't work out, 'cause I'm unpredictable. "

Then again, there's speculation that it wasn't a suicide at all and her melancholy moods were just normal teen angst.
QUOTE
But another theory has been delved upon by some authors of the fashion industry who claim that Ruslana´s death might be related to the model wanting out desperately and not being allowed to do so by the Paris-NewYork-Moscow mafia that controls teenage models. Some reports have linked the economic giant Gazprom with creating a web of model management and discovery with a a tightly controlled escort spinoff that sets up supermodels with corporative tycoons. Most of the girls being from Eastern Europe.

Whether suicide or murder, dirtbag extraordinaire, Geraldo Rivera, was right there with footage of her dead body.

Seeing her lying there like that hit a little too close to home for me.
So sad.
