Grumpy Auld Bastards > TODAY!........ I think I'm going to........ > Slabber!

So I am on my way to work this morning and listening to the radio. Well, the morning show people start talking about Alaska. They said that when you go to Alaska and stay at somebody's house, it is tradition that the homeowner lets the guest sleep with the lady of the house. After hearing this I thought to myself, I didn't know that Zot was a swinger.

So, care to discuss this little tradition Zot?

Wow...talk about spoiling things for everyone.

It's not Alaska, it's a specific Native group, I think the Inupiaq. I also think it's mostly an urban myth. The Alaska Natives suffer from quite a bit of misunderstanding about their cultures, and who they are...and this is one that everyone in Alaska has heard.

The Inupiaq are very very hospitiable to visitors. The story goes that, a visitor to the Inupiaq is given free reign over EVERYTHING in the house, and that includes the women.

It's just not true.

What is true is that there is a serious problem in the Bush with sex and Natives.

The joke goes

"what's the 1st thing a Native chick says after sex?"

"Get off me daddy, you're crushing my cigarettes."

Note to self, rethink the whole Alaska hedonism business venture.

I just finished reading a book (fiction) that had a significant amount of reference to Yup'ik Eskimos, called The Tenth Circle. The story had nothing directly to do with the Eskimos, but they were referenced throughout as one of the main characters grew up in a Yup'ik village. I like to think that a fair amount of work went into the authenticity of it, but you never know. Not that the Eskimo behavior was anything necessarily bad like above, just about whites have a hard time fitting in and that they have a much different belief system, etc. Interesting stuff, if it's true.

If Manhatten had the same population density as Alaska, only 25 people would live there.
